Response to the effects question

I play jazz and Obviously I don’t use any effects at all. I have a stand up as well as a Fretless Ibanez that has been posted on this blog before. They sound great and all I do is take some control of the equalizer in order to get the amp to amplify the sound of my bass. Something Rufus Reid once told me was “Play through the amp, don’t let the amp play you.” In that he simply wanted whatever sound coming out of his amp to sound exactly like his bass and not be overpowering. This is what I try to do as a Jazz bassist. Although, I have to admit, my guilty pleasure is playing around with loop pedals.
